Size & Measurement Guide
All Material Response pieces are made to order in the UK using vintage denim and recycled materials. Because every piece is custom, we encourage you to measure carefully and contact us before placing your order if you have any questions.
How to Measure Yourself
For Jeans & Jorts
- Waist: Measure around your the waistband of a pair of trousers which fit you well keeping the tape snug but not tight.
- Length (outseam): Measure from the top of your waistband to the hem along the outside of your leg.
For Jackets & Vests
- Chest: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape horizontal and under your arms.
- Sleeve: Measure from the centre back of your neck, over your shoulder, and down to your wrist.
- Length: Measure from the top of your shoulder down to where you'd like the hem to sit.
For Bags
- Width: The widest horizontal measurement of the bag body.
- Height: The tallest vertical measurement of the bag body.
- Strap length: Measured from one end of the strap to the other.
Sizing
Bottoms:
Always measure a non stretch pair of your favourite jeans/trousers.
We believe in outside leg measurements over inside leg - our trousers have a dropped crotch so the most important measurement is from the top of the waistband (wherever you like yours to sit) to the bottom hem of your jeans, along the outside leg.
All bottoms feature a dropped crotch and relaxed silhouette. Sizes are a guide — we make to your measurements.
Fit Guidance
Jeans & Jorts
- Dropped crotch: Our jeans sit lower in the crotch for a relaxed, contemporary silhouette.
- Relaxed silhouette: Cut with extra room through the thigh and seat.
Jackets & Vests
- Oversized fit: Our jackets are cut generously. If you prefer a closer fit, size down or provide your exact measurements.
- Appliqué & patchwork: Decorative elements are hand-applied and may add slight structure to certain panels.
Bags
- Strap adjustability: Most bags feature adjustable straps. Specify your preferred drop length when ordering.
- Structure: Bags are unlined and unstructured by default, giving a soft, worn-in feel.
Materials & Construction
- Denim: Sourced from vintage Levi's and deadstock denim — each piece is unique. Weight and wash will vary.
- Recycled materials: Trims, linings, and embellishments are sourced from recycled or surplus stock wherever possible.
- Made in the UK: Every piece is cut and sewn in our UK studio.
- Finishing: Raw hems, exposed seams, and intentional distressing are part of the aesthetic — not defects.
